It’s the 15th year of Satoshi Nakamoto’s release of the Bitcoin whitepaper, Now we have 2023. Web3 remains a niche celebration rather than a mainstream value discovery feast. Web3 mass adoption continues to pose challenges that the entire industry is actively contemplating, striving to overcome, and continuously exploring.
What are the challenges hindering Web3 mass adoption?
Web3 means high barriers, particularly through encrypted wallets as the exclusive entry point and sole identity identifier. While many DApps may not require wallet interaction during usage, they still necessitate user login with an encrypted wallet. Consequently, users without wallets are unable to access the majority of DApps. This dependence on wallets restricts Web3 adoption, constituting a significant obstacle for new users.
For newcomers, learning how to use and manage wallets can be a complex and challenging process. Additionally, wallet security is of utmost importance, as the loss of private keys can lead to theft of encrypted assets. To address this concern, abstract accounts and MPC wallets are actively exploring simpler and more secure solutions to lower the barriers of Web3.
Furthermore, Web3 is an ecosystem comprised of numerous blockchains, yet their interoperability remains limited. Assets, social networks, communications, and identities may be dispersed across different chains, impeding the development of social networks. This limitation results in a partial deficiency in social capabilities, which is pivotal for explosive growth. Although blockchain technology can record significant amounts of on-chain data, it is not suitable for all data types. Certain data, such as personal communications, social networks, and physical events, must be stored off-chain. Currently, recorded on-chain behavior represents only a fraction of global activities, with the majority of on-chain content heavily focused on speculation, trading, finance, and technical aspects, lacking universality. This discrepancy poses challenges to the widespread adoption of Web3, as it inhibits users from fully recording and managing their identities and social networks within the Web3 ecosystem.
To address the challenge of mass adoption, we have developed MID.
What is MID?
MID is a decentralized identity protocol developed by ManesLAB and serves as the foundational product within the ManesLAB ecosystem.
The current version of MID enables users to bind and aggregate multi-chain wallet addresses under a unified name, along with mainstream social media accounts. This serves as the initial step for users to construct their personalized social relationship network. Additionally, MID functions as a login module, bridging data silos across various websites and applications.
Less restriction, more functionality.
Regarding login options, users can choose to sign in using a connected wallet for Web3 wallet signature login or opt for traditional methods such as email registration and login. This approach caters to both Web2 and Web3 users, providing a seamless user experience with exceptionally low entry barriers. It effectively meets the diverse requirements of users in multi-chain usage scenarios, including asset queries, display, invocation, permission services, and identity authentication.
Fat protocol, thin application.
As the foundational layer of the ManesLAB ecosystem, MID supports the rapid growth of the entire ecosystem and facilitates efficient collaboration among ecosystem applications. Leveraging MID, ManesLAB will offer diverse resources to ecosystem partners and redistribute the potential captured by the protocol, fostering a positive cycle of rapid ecosystem development.
Small entry, big future.
In terms of feature iteration, the current version of MID has taken significant strides in addressing user needs related to security, information privacy, identity authentication, asset identification, user profiling, customer relationship management, brand marketing, and more. It caters to both To C and To B requirements, striving to establish a lower-cost, highly efficient, secure, and positively correlated identity data network. Moving forward, MID will progressively expand its reach through web applications, mobile applications, smart interactive applications, and other interfaces. It will leverage the strengths of blockchaintechnology and underlying application protocols in terms of immediacy, embedment, and scalability. The goal is to provide seamless, traceable, and convenient O2O (Online to Offline) services with smooth user experience, evidential certification, and efficient operations. MID aims to guide the deep integration of the Web2 and Web3 ecosystems.
Short path, long term
Web3 Mass Adoption has a long way to go, but MID hopes to add a long-term foundation for Web3 building through this shortest path of continuous development and exploration, helping more individuals, organizations, and brands play their unique strengths, integrate into the Web3 diversified ecology, protect their own assets, and find the next growth point for multi-disciplinary development.
Starting from applications, thriving as a protocol.
As an evolving and improving foundational protocol, MID’s short-term goal is to guide millions of Web2 users into the corresponding Web3 ecosystem service system. Its long-term goal is to lead billions of Web2 users to fully embrace the benefits of the Web3 ecosystem. Ultimately, MID aspires to become one of the most mature and essential infrastructure applications in the Web3 field.
Through MID, we aim to lower the barriers of Web3 adoption, enhance interoperability between on-chain and off-chain behaviors, and promote the adoption of Web3 as a complete, useful, open, and inclusive ecosystem.
Web3 Mass Adoption
